Beyonc\u00e9’s<\/a> mother\u2019s food stand in Texas was shuttered by the health department this week, according to reports.<\/p>\n

Tina Knowles, the 72-year-old mother of the Texas Hold \u2018Em singer<\/a>, opened her Mama Tina\u2019s Gumbo booth at this year\u2019s Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The food stall sells Knowles\u2019 famed gumbo, which she has often talked about in interviews.<\/p>\n

According to an Instagram<\/a> post shared by Knowles, Mama Tina\u2019s Gumbo was scheduled to serve up food at the Texas<\/a> event from March 2 until March 22.<\/p>\n

However, a statement from the Houston Health Department, obtained by ABC 13<\/a>, revealed that the business was closed on March 16.<\/p>\n

“On Monday, March 16, 2026, the Houston Health Department issued a temporary closure of Mama Tina’s Gumbo booth at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo as a result of a complaint investigation,\u201d the statement read. \u201cThe vendor was cooperative with the department’s recommendations and passed a subsequent inspection.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the HHD statement, Mama Tina\u2019s Gumbo was authorized to reopen on March 17.<\/p>\n

In an interview with ABC 13<\/a>, Knowles said that her stand offers two types of gumbo: a chicken-and-sausage variety and her \u201cfavorite\u201d seafood flavor.<\/p>\n

She added that the food is simmered for 16 to 18 hours to give it a strong flavour.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have two partners, two young partners and they had the most delicious gumbo. They brought it for my book tour,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd so, their recipe was delicious so I put all of my Louisiana touches and my family recipe little tricks in there and combined it and now it\u2019s like a hybrid of both.\u201d<\/p>\n

Knowles told the TikToker @hey_vagney<\/a> that Beyonc\u00e9<\/a> has long been a fan of the dish.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeyonc\u00e9 absolutely loves this gumbo,\u201d Knowles said. \u201cShe would have it all the time, she’s always asking.\u201d<\/p>\n

LeToya Luckett<\/a>, who was a member of Destiny\u2019s Child <\/a>before the group became a worldwide phenomenon, also paid a visit to the food stand.<\/p>\n

In an Instagram video<\/a> shared by Knowles, Luckett gave a thumbs-up to the camera while holding a pot of gumbo.<\/p>\n

During a 2025 appearance on the House Guest<\/a> podcast, she told host Scott Evans that she learned to make the meal by serving as her mother\u2019s \u201csous chef\u201d in the kitchen.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know I would meet a guy and I would make gumbo and he would say \u2018Oh man, she can throw down, she can really cook,\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cBut it was the only thing I knew how to cook.\u201d<\/p>\n
