AUSTIN, Texas (KEYE) \u2014 A person is in the hospital and a suspect is in custody after shots were fired at the Austin Central Library downtown, police announced.<\/p>\n

The Austin Police Department said that a call came in on Saturday around 12:06 p.m. regarding multiple calls reporting hearing shots fired at the Austin Central Library at 710 W. Cesar Chavez St.<\/p>\n

“It was a confusing scene with so many callers, as you can expect,” APD Assistant Chief Lee Rogers said.<\/p>\n

Responding officers located one victim and transported them to the hospital. That person is in serious but stable condition, according to police.<\/p>\n

Police said that suspect had fled the scene prior to the arrival of the officers. He was described as a thin black man who was last seen wearing a gray hoodie, green shorts, black pants, black shoes and two black bags.<\/p>\n

APD says that the suspect was taken into custody at 1:26 p.m. in south Austin in coordination between officers at the scene and in the field.<\/p>\n

Police say that the shooting was an isolated incident between the suspect and the victim and not an active shooter event.<\/p>\n

A shelter in place order was sent out to the area; police say it has since been lifted.<\/p>\n

Multiple officers cleared the scene, and police said there were no other reports of casualties or shots fired after officers got to the library.<\/p>\n
