AUSTIN, Texas \u2014 After nearly four weeks of closure during a stretch of near-record high temperatures, Barton Springs Pool is set to reopen this Saturday, March 21.<\/p>\n
The City of Austin said city staff and contractors completed the Barton Springs Skimmer Bypass Project<\/a> this week at the pool, 2131 William Barton Dr., to address safety and environmental concerns. The work removed and mitigated a decommissioned skimmer bypass dating to about 1940.<\/p>\n The pool had originally been scheduled to reopen on March 13, but officials said crews required specialized equipment and additional time.<\/p>\n ALSO| Austin ISD to recognize March 31 as Dolores Huerta Day following C\u00e9sar Ch\u00e1vez allegations<\/a><\/p>\n City officials said environmental protections for the sensitive habitat of the endangered Barton Springs salamander were monitored during construction by Austin Watershed Protection, and the changes are expected to support a more stable environment in the critical habitat.<\/p>\n Visitors can buy tickets in advance using the free ATXSwims app, available at the Mac App Store <\/a>or Google Play<\/a>.
