The building main entry at the rotunda and site work on the west side is closed to the public. Joan Means Khabele Bathhouse at Barton Springs Pool partially reopens on Tuesday, October 28. Renovated restroom and shower spaces will now be available inside; please enter from the pool side of the building. The front parking lot will also reopen, except one small area that will remain fenced off for ongoing construction work.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.austintexas.gov\/department\/watershed-protection\/projects\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dick Nichols Park Beckett Meadows Pond Rehabilitation<\/a><br \/>Date of work: Fall 2024\u20132026\u00a0<br \/>Description: \u00a0Repair work on the Beckett Meadows stormwater control pond (work duration approximately 6 months).<\/p>\n<p>Bartholomew Park &#8211; 5\u201312 Playscape<br \/>Date of closure: August 14, 2025\u2013TBD<br \/>Description: The Bartholomew Park 5-12 Playscape is closed for maintenance until further notice.<\/p>\n<p>Zilker Park &#8211; The Great Lawn<br \/>Date of closure: March 18, 2026\u2013March 19, 2026<br \/>Description: The Great Lawn at Zilker Park will be closed intermittently from 6:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, and Thursday, March 19, 2026, for a fertilizer application. Park patrons should avoid equipment in use and follow directions from staff. Parking lots and trails will remain open.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>POOLS AND SPLASH PADS \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Splash Pads Closed for the Season<br \/>Date of closure: October 31, 2025<br \/>Description: Austin Parks and Recreation splash pads will close for the season on Friday, October 31, 2025. Austin Parks and Recreation Department is working with Public Works and the Austin Transportation Department to plan, design and implement improvements to the trail detour route east of the creek.<\/p>\n<p>Trail Access Closed at Willow Street<br \/>Date of closure: September, 2021\u20132026<br \/>Description: Trail access at Willow Street\u00a0is temporarily closed due to construction. See map for the nearest trail access point. The trail access will be closed throughout construction of 98 Red River for an approximate duration of 64 months.<\/p>\n<p>Roy and Ann Butler Hike and Bike Trail Detour at the Wishbone Bridge\/Longhorn Dam\u00a0<br \/>Date of detour: July 15, 2024\u2013January 2026<br \/>Description: The Wishbone Bridge\/Longhorn Dam construction project begins July 1, 2024. The construction project will involve a detour route for pedestrians and cyclists. The project time line is \u00a0July 1, 2024 \u2013 construction begins, July 8, 2024 \u2013 Closures start, July 15, 2024 \u2013 Trail detour begins, January 2026 (approximately 18 months) \u2013 Detour ends.<br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/PublicInput.com\/r220352\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Get more project information.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>            <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Updated Longhorn Dam.jpg\" width=\"522\" height=\"540\" alt=\"Updated Longhorn Dam.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail Detour along Barton Creek Streambank<br \/>Date of detour: November 4, 2024\u2013End of 2025<br \/>Description: Beginning Monday, January 27, 2025, there is a trail detour along Barton Creek rerouting trail users through Toomey Rd. and baseball diamonds. The Watershed Protection Department is managing a project to repair the Barton Creek streambank failure that occurred in May 2018 during a flooding event. The streambank repair began in early November 4, 2024 and is expected to continue until Summer 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>            <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Barton Creek Trail Detour.jpg\" width=\"1006\" height=\"584\" alt=\"Barton Creek Trail Detour.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Waller Creek Greenbelt (5th St. and 6th St.)\u00a0<br \/>Date of closure: June 5, 2025\u2013TBD<br \/>Description: Waller Creek Greenbelt trail is closed between 5th St. and 6th St. due to a fallen tree. Trail users will be redirected on to the sidewalk at Sabine Street while the tree is removed.<\/p>\n<p>Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail &#8211; Lou Neff Point Observation Deck<br \/>Date of closure: June 25, 2025\u2013November 2025<br \/>Description: Lou Neff Point Observation Deck is closed for repair work to the observation deck foundation, wall, and bank. The observation deck is expected to reopen in August 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>            <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/FINAL_LBL_North-Shore_Google-Map.png\" width=\"1024\" height=\"862\" alt=\"FINAL_LBL_North-Shore_Google-Map.png\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail &#8211; North Shore near Rainey St. and I-35 Bridges<br \/>Date of detour: September 2025\u20132033<br \/>Description: Due to the TxDOT I-35 Capital Express Central project, Butler Hike and Bike trail users should expect significant north shore trail reroutes beginning September 2025 and continuing through 2033. The detour, located along the south side of East Avenue, is designed to balance safety and accessibility without crossing traffic.<\/p>\n<p>TxDOT operations will happen on the north shore of Lady Bird Lake west of the &#8220;Holiday Inn&#8221; boat ramp between 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., nightly to ensure that the trail is operational during daytime hours. The &#8220;Holiday Inn&#8221; boat ramp west of I-35 is reserved for emergency vehicles for the duration of the construction.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Crews are constructing a dock just west of I-35 over the next few weeks in November 2025, working between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. The dock will be approximately the size of a basketball court and used to transport construction materials and equipment needed for reconstruction of the Lady Bird Lake bridge. The community can expect an increase in noise, lighting and truck traffic in the area.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>All work on the trail and parkland is within TxDOT&#8217;s right-of-way.<\/p>\n<p>Trail Reroute Construction Timeline<\/p>\n<p>September 15, 2025 \u2013 Parking lot under the I-35 bridge (north shore of Lady Bird Lake) closesLate September\/Early October 2025 \u2013 Detour west of I-35 opens (construction expected to take 3 weeks)Late November\/Early December 2025 \u2013 Detour east of I-35 opens following construction in November<\/p>\n<p>East Avenue\u00a0between the southbound I-35 frontage road and Nash Hernandez Sr. road (under the I-35 bridge)\u00a0is closed as crews install utilities, through early 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>FACILITIES<\/p>\n<p>Givens Recreation Center<br \/>Date of closure: February 17, 2025\u20132026<br \/>Description: \u00a0Givens Recreation Center will be closed to the public from Monday, February 17, 2025 until 2026 for major facility enhancements.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>ROAD\/PARKING LOT CLOSURES<\/p>\n<p>Barton Springs Pool, North Parking Lot<br \/>Date of closure: February 15, 2024\u2013TBD<br \/>Description: Starting on Thursday, February 15, public parking on the north side of Barton Springs Pool will not be available or limited, and William Barton Drive will be limited to emergency vehicles and construction deliveries. Long<br \/>Date of closure: October 16, 2024\u2013TBD<br \/>Description:\u00a0The boat ramps at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.austintexas.gov\/department\/lake-walter-e-long\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Lake Walter E. Long<\/a> are closed until further notice as water levels levels are too low for boaters to safely enter and exit the lake. Lake access will remain available for shore-launched watercraft such as canoes and kayaks. All other park amenities, including\u00a0volleyball courts, picnic sites, grills, and walking trails, will\u00a0remain available. Austin Energy will be upgrading Decker Dam&#8217;s nearly 60-year-old infrastructure. In preparation for upcoming equipment upgrades, the lake level will be gradually lowered through natural evaporation and the boat ramps will remain closed\u00a0for the duration of the project for the safety of boaters. The boat ramps will reopen when water levels once again allow\u00a0boaters to safely enter and exit.
