The Murphy City Council has adopted a new long-range planning document intended to guide development, land use and infrastructure decisions in the Collin County suburb for the next 15 to 20 years. The Murphy Master Plan replaces the city\u2019s previous comprehensive plan adopted in 2008 and is designed as a policy guide rather than a zoning ordinance.\u00a0<\/p>\n
City documents note that the plan \u201cdoes not in and of itself change zoning on properties\u201d but instead provides direction for future decisions by staff, elected officials and property owners regarding development and redevelopment.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The plan focuses on how Murphy should evolve as a largely built-out community of about 21,000 residents with limited vacant land remaining. According to the document, the city contains about 6,159 housing units and is projected to add only about 161 additional units over the next five years, reflecting the transition from new construction to redevelopment and reinvestment.\u00a0<\/p>\n
