Fresh off the release of his new album Watterson Hall, William Clark Green<\/a> joined Sierra Waggoner and Trevor Scott on We Are Austin ahead of his performance at Rodeo Austin <\/a>\u2014 and he even brought along his dog, Gumbo.<\/p>\n

William Clark Green, who has been making music for more than 15 years, reflected on his Texas roots and the journey that\u2019s shaped his sound and storytelling over the years. \u201cMy fans were the college kids when I started 17 years ago, and I feel like we\u2019ve all grown together. We\u2019re on the same path now \u2014 marriage, kids, and those different stages of life. This record is definitely more mature and reflects that.\u201d<\/p>\n

His latest project, Watterson Hall, marks a deeply personal era, influenced by family and the place that inspired its name. \u201cWatterson Hall is in Red Rock, Texas, about 15 minutes south of Bastrop, on the way to Rosanky. It\u2019s a dance hall my wife introduced me to \u2014 her grandparents danced there, her parents danced there, she danced there, and it\u2019s still there now. This record is all about meeting my wife and starting a family, so it was the perfect title.\u201d<\/p>\n

That shift in perspective also changed the way he approached songwriting. \u201cThat was the scary part, honestly, because I was so used to writing about the demise of relationships. That was kind of my go-to. So it was weird writing for this record, but like my mom said, follow your heart \u2014 it never steers you wrong. I just wrote what I knew, and that\u2019s been my wife and starting my family over the last five years.\u201d<\/p>\n

Things are really rolling in our favor this year, so we\u2019re enjoying the tour and playing some really cool shows. I think it all reflects on the record and the team we\u2019ve built around this. It\u2019s been a really good year so far.\u201d<\/p>\n
