The South 1st Street Reclaimed Water Main is part of a series of projects to expand backup capacity and improve service reliability for reclaimed water users across Austin. The project will install approximately 5,500 feet of pipeline along Monroe Street and South 1st Street.<\/p>\n
A large portion of the main will be installed using horizontal directional drilling, which minimizes open-cut work on South 1st Street and reduces traffic impacts during construction. Potential future connections to the reclaimed main include the Texas School for the Deaf.<\/p>\n

Connecting to Reclaimed Water<\/p>\n Reclaimed water is highly purified wastewater that is ordinarily discharged to the Colorado River. Austin Water takes some of the water, stores it in tanks and pumps it to customers for non-drinking uses such as irrigation, cooling, toilet flushing and manufacturing.
