{"id":216842,"date":"2026-03-23T17:51:10","date_gmt":"2026-03-23T17:51:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/216842\/"},"modified":"2026-03-23T17:51:10","modified_gmt":"2026-03-23T17:51:10","slug":"womens-tennis-gears-up-for-tilt-with-cal-poly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/216842\/","title":{"rendered":"Women&#8217;s Tennis gears up for tilt with Cal Poly"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n                    &#13;<br \/>\n                        Story Links&#13;<br \/>\n                        &#13;<br \/>\n    &#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>                     ARLINGTON, Texas \u2013 UT Arlington women&#8217;s tennis is looking to win its second match in a row when it takes on the Cal Poly Mustangs at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the UTA Tennis Center.\u00a0 The Mavericks play has trended up in their past few matches and a win would give them back-to-back victories for the second time this season.<\/p>\n<p>UTA (4-10) is coming off a 5-2 win over the Abilene Christian Wildcats. The match featured a strong showing in doubles play where the Mavericks picked up their third doubles point of the spring with wins on Court 2 and Court 3.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/utamavs.com\/sports\/womens-tennis\/roster\/flora-farkaslaki\/14760\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14760\" target=\"_blank\">Flora Farkaslaki<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/utamavs.com\/sports\/womens-tennis\/roster\/tasnime-ahamout\/14758\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14758\" target=\"_blank\">Tasnime Ahamout<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/utamavs.com\/sports\/womens-tennis\/roster\/diana-kaibara\/14763\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14763\" target=\"_blank\">Diana Kaibara<\/a> each won their doubles match \u2014 Kairbara and Fakraslaki as the Mavericks Court 3 duo and Ahamout teaming with <a href=\"https:\/\/utamavs.com\/sports\/womens-tennis\/roster\/natalia-gonzalez\/14761\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14761\" target=\"_blank\">Natalia Gonzalez<\/a> on Court 2 \u2014 as well as their singles match.<\/p>\n<p>Ahamout competed on singles Court 5 after playing exclusively on Court 6 throughout the spring. The bump up the lineup card didn&#8217;t phase the freshman as Ahamout took down ACU&#8217;s Victoria Correa 7-5, 7-5 in a hard-fought match.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere in singles action, Kaibara quickly knocked off the Wildcats Court 2 representative Maria Cascos in straight sets. <a href=\"https:\/\/utamavs.com\/sports\/womens-tennis\/roster\/sofia-selle\/14762\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14762\" target=\"_blank\">Sofia Selle<\/a> overcame a 6-0 loss in the first set of her matchup to defeat ACU&#8217;s Angela Del Campo 6-3 and 6-4 in the final two.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Selle&#8217;s win on Court 3 clinched the match for UTA, but Farkaslaki put the cherry on top with a 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 victory on Court 6.<\/p>\n<p>The Mavericks and Mustangs have met just three times \u2014 the last meeting coming in 2014 \u2014 and UTA holds a 2-1 edge in the series. The previous match ended in a Maverick 4-0 sweep of Cal Poly.<\/p>\n<p>Scouting Cal Poly<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nThe Mustangs make the trek to Arlington at a 7-6 mark in spring dual matches. Cal Poly has lost three of its last four bouts, the lone win a 5-2 victory over UC San Diego. The Mustangs three losses came at the hands of ranked opponents, starting with a 5-2 loss to No. 22 San Diego State, followed by a 4-0 defeat to No. 54 Princeton and ending with a 7-0 sweep at the hands of No. 2 Pepperdine.<\/p>\n<p>Cal Poly is led by Kennedy Buntrock, who features a 7-4 record in singles dual matches. The senior is 6-4 on Court 1, her other decision coming in a Court 2 victory. Jessica MacCallum has held down Court 2 for most of the spring, working to a 5-4 record as the No. 2 singles player.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Doubles play has also been a strength for the Mustangs. Buntrock and MacCallum have been Cal Poly&#8217;s Court 1 duo and are 6-4 as a pairing. Natalie Lynch and Candela Aparisi have been the Mustangs lone team on Court 2 where they are 7-4.
