BASTROP, Texas \u2014 MONDAY P.M. UPDATE:<\/p>\n
The Spring Pine fire in Bastrop State Park has burned 46 acres and is 65% contained, according to the Texas A&M Forest Service.<\/p>\n
Park officials said smoke may remain for a few days. Areas impacted by the fire will remain closed until further notice.<\/p>\n
MONDAY A.M. UPDATE:<\/p>\n
A wildfire burning inside Bastrop State Park spread 46 acres and was 55% contained as of Monday morning, according to the Bastrop County Office of Emergency Management.<\/p>\n
Local agencies first responded to the Spring Pine Fire Sunday evening.<\/p>\n
“Morning shift responders arrived, relieving the overnight shift of firefighters, and continue to work around the fire,” the Bastrop County Office of Emergency Management said in an update at 10 a.m. Monday. “Engine crews are will spend today mopping up, an activity to extinguish all heat near the containment lines to ensure that the fire stays within them.”<\/p>\n
Texas Parks & Wildlife said the park has evacuated areas impacted by the fire. The fire has remained on state park property and has not crossed State Highway 71.<\/p>\n
Bulldozers worked the entire perimeter overnight, enabling fire engines to patrol the fire’s edge. Crews also monitored surrounding neighborhoods for spot fires caused by wind-carried embers.<\/p>\n
“Relative humidity recovered to almost 100% and winds decreased overnight, which helped decrease fire intensity in the early hours of Monday morning,” the Bastrop County Office of Emergency Management said at 7 a.m. “Slightly gusty winds and low humidity will return this afternoon.”<\/p>\n
One lane of eastbound State Highway 21 between Loop 150 and Norfolk Drive was reopened as of 8:15 a.m. <\/p>\n
“Smoke will be visible from the highway and surrounding areas throughout the day,” the Bastrop County Office of Emergency Management said. “Please use caution when traveling.”<\/p>\n
Texas Parks & Wildlife asked the public to respect road closure barricades.<\/p>\n
