AUSTIN, Texas \u2014 Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) officials have revealed new details about an upcoming expansion project aimed at easing crowding.<\/p>\n
The new Concourse M, to be built on the west side of the airfield, separate from the Barbara Jordan Terminal, will feature six gates for smaller, narrow-body planes.<\/p>\n
Concourse M is a temporary solution to create more space, while the future Concourse B is constructed. Concourse B will eventually house 32 new airline gates.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Airport officials said travelers will be able to access Concourse M by a shuttle bus that departs from Gate 13, the airport’s only ground-level gate. The new facility will be used for flight diversions and as a relief area during construction, ensuring gate capacity remains steady as work continues on Concourses A and B.<\/p>\n
\u201cConcourse M is a critical project that allows us to deliver more airline gates quickly, especially as we ramp up construction across the airfield\u201d, AUS CEO Ghizlane Badawi said in a statement. \u201cAs we continue design and pre-construction work on the new 26-gate Concourse B, we know our airline partners and passengers need more space as soon as possible, and this project will do just that, all while offering AUS travelers convenient amenities.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Austin City Council is scheduled to vote Thursday on a food service and retail concession lease agreement for the facility.<\/p>\n
