HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — As the partial government shutdown continues, a Houston restaurant is on a mission to help support furloughed TSA officers who are working without pay.<\/p>\n
Acclaimed Thai spot Street to Kitchen<\/a> is delivering hundreds of meals each day to TSA workers at Houston airports. The effort is in partnership with the non-profit World Central Kitchen<\/a>, which provides food relief during humanitarian crises.<\/p>\n “We immediately answered the call,” said Graham Painter, co-owner of Street to Kitchen. “My wife and I are always using the Houston airports and we have a sensitivity for these agents who are there protecting us. My wife and I were very determined to help them through this. She’s staying up all night on many of these nights to prep and get these meals ready.”<\/p>\n “Sometimes, (on a) bad day or a tough day, when you have a good meal, it gives you a little smile,” said Chef Benchawan Painter, who also co-owns Street to Kitchen. “That’s my happiness, to see people happy.”<\/p>\n Street to Kitchen, which is located in Houston’s East End, estimates it will deliver around 3,000 meals total to the Houston airports during the shutdown.<\/p>\n “Everybody is really grateful, and they seem to be enjoyed the meals,” said Graham Painter. “We are in this as long as they need us.”<\/p>\n ABC13 visited Street to Kitchen in the video above to see how the entire team is jumping in to help.<\/p>\n
