One of the Dallas region\u2019s most well-known names in furniture is closing.<\/p>\n

Weir\u2019s Furniture<\/a>, founded in 1948, has announced it will shutter after all its merchandise is sold, according to an announcement by the company. <\/p>\n

The decision came \u201cafter exploring all reasonable alternatives and careful evaluation of its long-term financial position, difficult market conditions and operational challenges,\u201d the announcement said. <\/p>\n

The board \u201cdetermined that the company cannot continue operating sustainably,\u201d it said. <\/p>\n

The business was founded by J. Ray and Bea Weir with a single storefront in the Knox Street area of Dallas \u2014 and then growing to several locations. A closing sale will begin on Thursday, and customers are encouraged to visit local stores while merchandise is available. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis was an extremely difficult decision, but closing now enables us to honor J. Ray and Bea\u2019s legacy by finishing well and taking care of our employees,\u201d said Al Boulden, Weir\u2019s chairman of the board, in the statement. \u201cFrom the very beginning, Weir\u2019s mission has been rooted in honoring God and serving our people.\u201d<\/p>\n

The shuttering of Weir\u2019s ends a longtime legacy in the furniture landscape of North Texas \u2014 and a stalwart of the Knox Street area. The company\u2019s locations include two in Dallas along with sites in Plano and Southlake. <\/p>\n

J. Ray Weir served as president until he retired in 1972, when his son, Dan Weir, was appointed as president. He led the company for over 30 years until handing over the reins to nephew, Mark Moore, who was named CEO. Moore retired in 2024. <\/p>\n
