As the partial government shutdown, enters its 40th day, the Houston Police Officers’ Union is reaching out to TSA workers highlighting consistent pay and career opportunities within the Houston Police Department. <\/p>\n
Over 450 TSA workers have quit or resigned since the last government shutdown began, according to the Associated Press.<\/p>\n
In a statement addressed directly to TSA workers, HPOU President Douglas Griffith said:<\/p>\n
“Keeping our airports safe is important work. If you\u2019re looking for better job security, better pay, and the opportunity to make a real impact in a community that appreciates you, HPD is hiring. The Houston Police Officers\u2019 Union would gladly accept members of the TSA who want to have a better career. Tired of long hours with intermittent pay, come to the Houston Police Department where you are respected for your hard work and paid regularly.\u201d <\/p>\n
For the Frontline TSA agents, the struggle is more challenging, as congress remains deadlocked over the funding for the Department of Homeland Security. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis isn\u2019t about politics, it\u2019s about stability, fair compensation, and keeping Americans safe.\u201d Congressman Wesley Hunt said.<\/p>\n
The only hope for travelers dealing with TSA lines as long as 3 to 4 hours- is the deployment of ICE officers, as they assist TSA managing the exits allowing TSA agents to move the line along more efficiently.
