FORT WORTH, TX. (WFSB) – The UConn women\u2019s basketball team are continuing their quest for back-to-back championships in Fort Worth, Texas. They will play fourth seeded North Carolina on Friday.<\/p>\n
There is a ton of history in that part of the lone star state, and UConn fans flocked down to see it all.<\/p>\n
The Fort Worth Stockyards began in 1887 and grew into the largest livestock trading center in the Southwest.<\/p>\n
Things changed in the 1970s when the buying and trading of livestock moved out of Fort Worth Proper. The Stockyards then became a historic district. <\/p>\n
Cowboy culture welcomed vibrant restaurants, boutique retail, music and hotels while keeping its distinction as an Old West cowtown.<\/p>\n
The history of the Old West is alive in the area. The fashion from that era has kept up with modern times.<\/p>\n
The upcoming women\u2019s NCAA tournament is expected to fit in.<\/p>\n
\u201cGlad to be here. A yankee in the wild west. Yes sir,\u201d said Ken Spry of Southbury.<\/p>\n
The White Elephant is the oldest bar in Fort Worth. Scenes from \u201cWalker, Texas Ranger\u201d were filmed there.<\/p>\n
The location attracts tourists from Connecticut and London, England.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are all here for a work convention, we are tech service guys,\u201d said P.J. Weitzler of Seymour.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo fun, incredible, it\u2019s out of a movie, it\u2019s crazy,\u201d said Ollie, a visitor from London.<\/p>\n
Seventeen longhorns represent one head for every decade Fort Worth has been in existence. Fort Worth is 177 years old. <\/p>\n
In three more years, another head will be added to the walk.<\/p>\n
The UConn women need two wins in Fort Worth to reach the Final Four.<\/p>\n
