A whole tree at the Wind Tree Apartments on Trawood and George Dieter was filled with large dark birds just perched there like they’ve got a meeting to attend.

So of course, the comments rolled in. Some were rational, and some were enough to make you want to bust out the holy water and rosary!

There’s gotta be something dead somewhere nearby for sure.

And then the one that pretty much summed it all up:

Turkey Buzzards, the real first sign of Spring, ready to clean up the road kill!

That’s the one you want to pay attention to!

READ MORE: El Paso’s 2025 Dust Storm Season Breaks Records

Why You’re Seeing So Many Vultures in El Paso Right Now

As wild as it looks, this is actually completely normal. Turkey vultures are common spring migrants in El Paso, typically returning around mid-to-late March, right when the season starts shifting.

You’ll usually spot them soaring overhead in that signature V-shape, kind of teetering through the sky. But when they land, they tend to gather, and sometimes, all in one place.

Fun fact: a group of vultures perched in a tree is called a “committee,” a “kettle” when they’re flying, and a “wake” when they’re feeding.

El Paso’s Built-In Clean-Up Crew

As dramatic as the scene looks, these birds actually play an important role.
