In 2011, it moved next door to its outgoing location, and The Filling Station Tap Room set up shop inside the old Texaco.

Throughout the 14 years that followed, it became a popular spot for San Antonio’s cyclists to grab a cold beer and a quick bite to eat while riding through downtown. However, owner Jon Rowe told MySA on March 12 that The Filling Station Tap Room would close for good on March 21 as business was “just not enough to sustain a new lease,” adding that the cafe would remain open.

Rowe said at the time, the decision to close The Filling Station was “a little bit heartbreaking” but also a relief “because for the last three years, ever since the [COVID-19] pandemic, it’s been more a labor of love than a labor of profit.”

“So, you know, after a while … it’s hard to do a bunch of work for not really any money,” he said.

The corner of South St. Mary’s and King William Streets in San Antonio is about to look very different. …

[8
1112,820,82,84,83
0":"post-221581","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-san-antonio","8":"tag-mysafood","9":"tag-mysastaff","10":"tag-san-antonio","11":"tag-san-antonio-headlines","12":"tag-san-antonio-news
["GET
