{"id":2216,"date":"2025-10-14T07:20:32","date_gmt":"2025-10-14T07:20:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/2216\/"},"modified":"2025-10-14T07:20:32","modified_gmt":"2025-10-14T07:20:32","slug":"the-wooden-spoons-gwen-workman-dies-after-weekend-hospital-stay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/2216\/","title":{"rendered":"The Wooden Spoon&#8217;s Gwen Workman dies after weekend hospital stay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thirty seven years after opening The Wooden Spoon, Gwen Workman has died after a brain bleed left her hospitalized last week. <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Gwen Welk Workman died at 5:13 a.m., according to a Facebook post made on her behalf.<\/p>\n<p>The store stayed open today, \u201cas Mrs. Gwen would want it to be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/profile.php?id=100063761765307\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> to an earlier Facebook post,<\/a> Workman was rushed to the emergency room on Friday morning with a \u201cmassive brain bleed.\u201d The post said a breathing tube was removed on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Workman bought and restored The Wooden Spoon\u2019s home, the oldest in Plano. While preserving its heritage, she shaped the store to preserve her own, selling Scandinavian goods \u201cin the middle of Cowboy country,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/planomagazine.com\/wooden-spoon-plano-magazine\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">we wrote<\/a> when we featured her in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>As The Wooden Spoon says \u201clet\u2019s all keep the spoon stirring.\u201d Wooden Spoon staff will be keeping the shop open and encouraging customers to come by and share their stories of Workman and the shop.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019d also like to help compile some of these stories to gift.
