Roughly 24 hours after an officer was involved in a shooting in San Antonio<\/a>, new details are emerging. It comes after the situation unfolded on Loop 410 west, sparking a multi-lane closure.<\/p>\n

Preliminary information from the Castle Hills Police Department (PD)<\/a> cites that at around 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25, one of its officers was responding to a reported hit-and-run traffic incident when “an encounter” with an individual occurred. Authorities said “the individual exited a vehicle and advanced toward the officer while armed with edged weapons,” leading the officer to discharge their firearm.<\/p>\n

Staff Sergeant for the Texas Department of Public Safety, Dila Hidalgo, confirmed to MySA that the “individual”\u00a0was the suspected hit-and-run driver and that they later died due to their injuries.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“The identity will be released once next of kin has been notified,” Hidalgo said. “This remains an active and ongoing investigation, and no additional information is available for release at this time.”<\/p>\n

No officers were injured during the situation, and there is no ongoing threat to the public, according to Castle Hills PD<\/a>. The Texas Rangers<\/a> are conducting an independent investigation\u00a0into what happened, which is routine for these types of scenarios.<\/p>\n

“We ask for the public\u2019s patience as we work to ensure a thorough and accurate investigation,” Castle Hills PD wrote in a statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n
