San Antonio officials estimate that changing the name of Ces\u00e1r E. Ch\u00e1vez Boulevard could cost the city upwards of $200,000.<\/p>\n

The city predicts it would cost residents along the downtown thoroughfare $26 to $51 per household to update identification cards, legal documents and other information if the change transpires, according to KSAT<\/a>. Around 300 addresses would also need to be updated, the TV station reports.<\/p>\n

District 2 Councilman Jalen McKee-Rodriguez and District 5 Councilwoman Teri Castillo filled a memo requesting that the city consider changing the name of the road after a bombshell New York Times report<\/a> last week accused the civil rights leader of sexually abusing women and girls.<\/p>\n

The allegations rocked San Antonio and Texas, both of which cancelled Ces\u00e1r Ch\u00e1vez Day celebrations on March 31.<\/p>\n

In response to the allegations and the memo from McKee-Rodriguez and Castillo, the city launched a one-minute survey<\/a> allowing residents to propose new names for the downtown artery. The poll will close April 2.<\/p>\n

The city also will hold public input meetings in April about the proposed name change. Those meetings haven\u2019t yet been scheduled, though.<\/p>\n
