The Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is preparing to close its South Terminal on March 31. Here’s what travelers need to know about the change.<\/p>\n
The airport reminded passengers about the development in a Thursday morning social media post<\/a>. “Departing from the South Terminal before March 31 but returning after April 1?” the post reads. “You’ll arrive at the Barbara Jordan Terminal.”<\/p>\n Starting April 1, Allegiant and Frontier flights will move to the Barbara Jordan Terminal, all commercial airlines at the airport will operate under one roof, and travelers will experience a more unified airport experience.<\/p>\n The post notes that parking accommodations are in place and the airport’s team is available to help passengers through the transition. The ABIA Parking shuttle will continue operating until the South Terminal parking lot has been fully vacated.<\/p>\n All of this is happening because the South Terminal structure is going to be permanently removed<\/a> to make room for the new Midfield Taxiways Project, which is a key infrastructure addition as the airport expansion project continues.<\/p>\n The airport expects<\/a> more than 27,000 departing passengers on Friday and is encouraging travelers to arrive at least 2.5 hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights.<\/p>\n The busiest time for departures is 6-7 a.m. and the busiest time for TSA is 3-7 a.m. <\/p>\n TSA personnel are currently working without pay<\/a> due to the ongoing partial government shutdown<\/a>. Numerous organizations, including the Central Texas Food Bank, are offering support during this time. <\/p>\n AUS reminds travelers that TSA is accepting gift cards for gas, groceries, or restaurants (not exceeding $20-25 in value).
