For four seasons, Melissa Roxburgh<\/a> and Josh Dallas<\/a> played siblings on NBC\u2019s thrilling sci-fi series Manifest<\/a>, which ended in 2023. Now, Dallas is guest starring on Roxburgh\u2019s action-packed drama<\/a> as one of the killers her character, ex-FBI profiler Rebecca \u201cBex\u201d Henderson, is secretly hunting with her team. He\u2019s yet another escapee from the Pit, a prison no one knew existed. And while the world thinks those inmates are dead, Bex and her team seek to wrangle the bloodthirsty murderers.<\/p>\n

They are enemies on The Hunting Party<\/a> in the Thursday, April 2, episode, but in real life, Roxburgh and Dallas are close pals. (They even celebrated Dallas\u2019 birthday on-set together.) \u201cHis ability to play and laugh brings so much joy to each set he\u2019s on,\u201d Roxburgh raves of her costar. \u201cHe\u2019s one of best people I know and one of my best friends.\u201d Watch the video above with Roxburgh and Dallas to see just that.<\/p>\n

Dallas, too, was delighted to step into this new world and work alongside Roxburgh again. \u201cShe\u2019s like my sister in real life. And we have this shorthand from Manifest that makes everything feel immediate and alive. We don\u2019t have to \u2018find\u2019 each other on set, we\u2019re already there,\u201d he shares, adding that returning to NBC (where Manifest aired before moving to Netflix) \u201cfeels like coming home \u2014 except with a much darker suitcase this time!\u201d<\/p>\n

That\u2019s because there\u2019s none the \u201cwarmth and trust\u201d that there was on\u00a0Manifest. Dallas plays Elliot Carr, aka the Connecticut Cobbler, a shoemaker whose custom designs include materials harvested from alligators, rhinos and\u2026people he\u2019s skinned alive. When we visited the NBC drama\u2019s set<\/a> prior to the Season 2 premiere, Roxburgh called this killer \u201cthe creepiest one\u201d yet.<\/p>\n

Executive producer JJ Bailey<\/a> added at the time of the episode that hadn\u2019t been filmed yet, \u201cMy hope is that it will land the way it\u2019s intended. It\u2019s a killer who starts off very twisted psychologically, and The Pit actually has a positive impact on this killer, but there\u2019s an unintended consequence of that positive impact. You could say he\u2019s made a lot of progress, but he is continuing to kill, but in a new way. It\u2019s sort of our twist on maybe how healed a serial killer can actually be, and that journey is really bizarre and fun.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dallas says that Elliot\u2019s been left with \u201ca warped sense of remorse\u201d after the Pit \u201crewired him. They put him through a brutal treatment where he\u2019s repeatedly marched to his own execution only to have it called off at the last possible second. Over and over and over again\u2026for years. And it broke him in a very specific way, so he comes out\u2026 altered. And when he\u2019s out, what\u2019s scary is he\u2019s not simply \u2018back to his old ways.\u2019 His psychology has shifted. The obsession is still there. The craft, the ritual, the need to dominate.\u201d<\/p>\n

With that \u201ctangled up\u201d with that twisted remorse, his \u201cmurders evolve and his methodology changes in a really unsettling way. He starts targeting people who are already injured, almost like he\u2019s trying to convince himself that he\u2019s not causing death, he\u2019s \u2018intervening,’\u201d Dallas previews. \u201cIt\u2019s definitely a twisted logic, but to Elliot it\u2019s a kind of morality. Which makes it even scarier. Without giving away the whole thing, there\u2019s a jaw dropping escalation where Elliott\u2019s \u2018craft\u2019 turns inward and what looks like a threat may actually be his idea of an apology!\u201d<\/p>\n

As for what to expect from Bex and Elliot\u2019s dynamic, \u201cit\u2019s tension, chess, and this sense that one wrong move changes the whole thing. Melissa is so grounded and smart in this role, she becomes the calm center of gravity. My character Elliott is used to being the weather in the room and suddenly there\u2019s someone who won\u2019t let him change the forecast,\u201d Dallas explains. \u201cSo every scene turns into this standoff where she\u2019s steady and he\u2019s scrambling to get power back. And that\u2019s what makes their scenes so fun \u2014 in the most disturbing way. Bex is one of the few people who can actually reach him\u2026 which means she\u2019s also one of the few people who can truly threaten him.\u201d<\/p>\n

He adds, \u201cBex tries to treat him like a human being and pull him toward accountability, while Elliot keeps trying to turn it into a game where he gets to control the narrative.\u201d<\/p>\n
