Spring, summer, fall, winter. Clean. Predictable. Makes sense. Lubbock does not participate in that system, though. Not at all.

I walked to work just before 6 am today in a friggin’ dust storm, y’all.

Out here, the weather operates on vibes, chaos, and what feels like pure spite. The forecast might say one thing, but step outside and you’ll quickly realize this place has its own set of seasons, and they rotate whenever they feel like it.

The Unofficial Seasons of Lubbock

First, there’s False Spring. 75°, sunny, no wind. You feel hope. You open windows. You start healing. Two days later, it’s freezing again, and you’re emotionally back where you started.

Then comes Second Winter (Petty Edition). Not a full winter, just enough cold to ruin your week and kill your plants out of spite.

Of course, there’s Wind Season, which is technically all year, but sometimes it chooses violence. You’re fighting the air just to walk into a store, and somehow your trash can is halfway to Oklahoma.

Next up: Dust Apocalypse. The sky turns brown, the air tastes like dirt, and your car looks freshly breaded. Nobody reacts. It’s just… Tuesday.

Read More: What To Expect From Jake’s Sports Cafe’s New Pickle Menu

Then Lubbock gives you a gift: “Actually Perfect for One Day.” It’s 75°, no wind, vibes are immaculate. Everyone in town is suddenly outside like it’s a holiday. It lasts about six hours.

After that? Summer (Surface of the Sun Edition). Steering wheels burn. Seatbelts brand. You sprint from AC to AC like it’s survival training.

Then there’s Fake Fall. Hoodie in the morning, regret by noon.

And finally, “Why Is It Hailing??” Season. Sun, storm, hail, sunshine again… all in under an hour.

Living in Lubbock means you don’t check the weather.
