But it meant something to the actors, and, amusingly, those self-righteous protests brought even more people out to see it. As the show <a tabindex=\"-1\" href=\"https:\/\/captimes.com\/entertainment\/arts-and-theatre\/corpus-christi-returns-to-the-bartell-years-after-protests\/article_df6b135d-bccc-47d2-8bc9-e7811ae5e14a.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">returns to the stage<\/a>, one theater artist quoted Oscar Wilde: \u201cThe only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mcePastedContent\">Whether art is \u201cgood\u201d can be beside the point if it sparks curiosity. A new <a tabindex=\"-1\" href=\"https:\/\/captimes.com\/entertainment\/the-worst-album-ever-made-we-are-the-shaggs-demands-a-reaction\/article_7be11d7b-a704-428b-baac-f9e6d9069201.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">documentary about The Shaggs<\/a>, screening at the Wisconsin Film Festival, insists that the 1960s rock trio meant to have out-of-tune instruments and out-of-step drums. \u201cI can think of no better praise for a song than one that challenges you to reframe how you think about art,\u201d director Ken Kwapis told writer Matt Ambrosio.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mcePastedContent\">As we head into a weekend full of Dueling Violins (<a tabindex=\"-1\" href=\"http:\/\/tickets.overture.org\/components\/sharedsession?actionUrl=https%3a%2f%2fwww.overture.org%2flogin%2freceive&amp;returnUrl=https%3a%2f%2fwww.overture.org%2ftickets-events%2f2025-26-season%2fwisconsin-chamber-orchestra-dueling-violins%2f\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra<\/a>, Friday night) and <a tabindex=\"-1\" href=\"https:\/\/atlasimprov.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Endurance Improv<\/a>, I\u2019ve been inspired to bake. I\u2019m calling the bitter, gummy lemon cherry polenta cake from last weekend a lesson in how to deal gracefully with failure, and I\u2019m happy the <a tabindex=\"-1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.epicurious.com\/recipes\/food\/views\/tenderest-shortbread-four-ways\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">dark chocolate rye shortbread cookies<\/a> turned out better.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mcePastedContent\">Finally, for the Sports Fans\u2122: Congratulations, UW <a tabindex=\"-1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wpr.org\/news\/wisconsin-badgers-win-back-to-back-national-championships\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">women\u2019s hockey<\/a>! I\u2019ve been reading her novels out of order \u2014 \u201cWe All Want Impossible Things,\u201d her first full-length work of adult fiction, came out in 2022, and it\u2019s about a mid-divorce 45-year-old woman whose dearest childhood friend is dying of cancer. (I know, but it\u2019s wonderful.) Another plus: Newman writes about food like someone who truly loves it. \u2014 Lindsay<\/p>\n<p class=\"mcePastedContent\">When my favorite novelists write non-fiction, I rush to it. I know the writing will be masterful, and I\u2019ll probably care (at least by the end) about whatever they have to say. In \u201c<a tabindex=\"-1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.goodreads.com\/book\/show\/23194.My_Story_as_told_by_Water\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">My Story as told by Water<\/a>\u201d (click for the full title), David James Duncan blends autobiography, nature writing, activism and contemplative reflections on existence. The company is celebrating with <a tabindex=\"-1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DWUO6cykVNQ\/?img_index=1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">free ice cream all day<\/a>, while supplies last.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mcePastedContent\">A second location of The Original Steaks and Hoagies franchise has opened on Madison\u2019s west side at 723 N. High Point Road. The classic Philadelphia sandwich is thinly shaved beef, cooked with browned onions and served with hot and sweet peppers and \u201cwhizz\u201d (Cheez Whiz). Try cheesesteak variations with chicken and cauliflower. Swap in blue cheese, provolone or American cheese for whiz, or try a hoagie, the Philadelphian term for a sub sandwich (cold cuts, provolone, vinaigrette) or hero (either hot or cold).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mcePastedContent\">JustVeggiez, James Bloodsaw\u2019s vegan spot at 540 State St., will be home to Alice &amp; Bernice Kitchen starting March 28. Advertising for the grand opening on Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., promises \u201cfamous wings,\u201d loaded chicken sandwiches (bacon, coleslaw, pineapple) and \u201csignature sauces.\u201d Starters and sides include gluten-free cheese curds, roasted potatoes, quinoa salad and sweet potato fries. Twenty years after the show first ran, Valerie is now a podcaster who sees a multi-camera sitcom written by AI as her last shot at relevance.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mcePastedContent\">Eating: Persian-ish crispy rice from Samin Nosrat\u2019s \u201cGood Things,\u201d also known as tahdig. I parboiled rice, mixed some of it with labneh, and let that crisp to a deep brown on the bottom of my skillet while the rest steamed on top. There was no way I was going to be able to flip it for a pretty presentation, but as Samin says, \u201cdo what every Persian grandmother has done since the beginning of time: Scoop out the rice, chip out the tahdig in pieces and pretend you meant to do it this way.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Listening to: I\u2019m not a Mumford &amp; Sons apologist but I keep coming back to \u201c<a tabindex=\"-1\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/36tMC1BcEdVTX2YN5Ygg7k?si=8AYIcyoST7ObbGkJfvhiVA\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Prizefighter<\/a>,\u201d the group\u2019s latest album.
