\t\t\t\t\t\t\tGeorgetown City Council authorized officials to send a notice of default to contractor Cekra Inc. for defective work on the Austin Avenue Bridge Rehabilitation project and demand repairs, according to a city update March 26.<\/p>\n

What happened<\/p>\n

Georgetown officials discovered water pooling on the Austin Avenue vehicular bridge as a result of poor contractor work, the update states.<\/p>\n

The project engineer outlined the corrective actions needed for the contractor to review, but the contractor did not offer a solution in a \u201ctimely manner,\u201d according to the city.<\/p>\n

About the project<\/p>\n

Construction began on the Austin Avenue Bridge Rehabilitation project<\/a> in October 2024, almost a decade after the city first identified structural issues resulting from deterioration and increased traffic in the area.<\/p>\n

The $12.7 million project, funded by the 2021 voter-approved mobility bond, aims to address the structural repairs, as well as safety upgrades and drainage improvements.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt this time, we cannot provide any additional details as we work through the contractual issues with the contractor,\u201d the update states. \u201cOnce a resolution is reached, the city will provide more details on the timeline for completing the remainder of the project.\u201d<\/p>\n
