Richardson police have made two arrests but say they are still searching for additional suspects in a shooting that left a high school senior paralyzed.<\/p>\n
Investigators say a fight broke out on March 19 during a late-night gathering outside a Waffle House in Richardson. Videos of the chaotic scene \u2014 now circulating on social media \u2014 are being reviewed by police as they work to identify the gunmen.<\/p>\n
According to police, a fight escalated into gunfire. One of the bullets struck 18-year-old Seth Thompson, a Richardson High School basketball player set to graduate in May, severing his spinal cord.<\/p>\n
His father, James Thompson, said his son had rushed in to help a friend, unaware of the danger.<\/p>\n
“This is your worst fear, that something will happen,” Thompson said.<\/p>\n
Thompson said his son immediately realized the severity of his injuries.<\/p>\n
“He knew he was paralyzed before he hit the ground. He said it felt like he was floating,” Thompson said. “He had no mobility; he had no control over his legs.”<\/p>\n
Seth Thompson has since been released from the ICU.<\/p>\n
Police have arrested 18-year-old Taylor Griffin and 17-year-old Charles Webster, both facing charges of organized criminal activity. Investigators believe more suspects were involved, some of whom were seen wearing ski masks.<\/p>\n
Thompson said the suspects were strangers to his son and his friends.<\/p>\n
“These guys were brandishing guns, and you know, terrorizing people,” Thompson said.<\/p>\n
While police continue their search, the family is focused on Seth\u2019s future and adjusting to life after the shooting.<\/p>\n
“It was pretty hard to accept the first couple days,” Thompson said.<\/p>\n
The hardest part, Thompson said, has been understanding the long-term impact of his son\u2019s injuries.<\/p>\n
“Well the knowing that he\u2019s never going to walk. He\u2019ll probably never have kids,” Thompson said.<\/p>\n
A family friend has started a GoFundMe to help with expenses as Seth Thompson begins rehabilitation.<\/p>\n
Thompson said he is grateful his son survived.<\/p>\n
“You make sure to tell them you love them, kiss them every time before they leave because you don\u2019t know if they\u2019ll come back,” Thompson said.<\/p>\n
