No. 15 Texas A&M<\/a> dropped a heartbreaker in Friday\u2019s series opener against No. 1 Texas<\/a>, falling 9\u20138 on a walk\u2011off fielder\u2019s choice after a back\u2011and\u2011forth slugfest at McCombs Field.<\/p>\n

The Aggies <\/a>out-hit the Longhorns<\/a> 13\u201310, scored in each of the first five innings, and played error\u2011free defense. It was the kind of game that felt destined to be decided by whichever team had the final at\u2011bat and Texas ultimately had that edge.<\/p>\n

A&M struck first in the top of the opening frame on an RBI single from Michaela Wark, but Texas answered immediately with a pair of solo home runs to take a 2\u20131 lead. The Aggies responded in the second when Kennedy Powell drove in KK Dement, then broke things open in the third. Dement doubled home Tallen Edwards, and Paislie Allen followed with a two\u2011run homer to push the lead to 5\u20132.<\/p>\n

Texas countered again, tying the game 5\u20135 in the bottom half, but Wark delivered her second big swing of the night with a two\u2011run single to reclaim a 7\u20135 advantage. The Longhorns plated one in the fourth, and A&M<\/a> matched it in the fifth on an RBI single from Mya Perez. True to form, Texas answered once more, leveling the score 8\u20138 heading into the sixth.<\/p>\n

After a scoreless inning from both sides, the Longhorns mounted the decisive threat in the seventh. With the bases loaded and no outs, a hard grounder to shortstop KK Dement forced a play at the plate, but the runner from third beat the throw to seal the walk\u2011off win for Texas.<\/p>\n
