{"id":224617,"date":"2026-03-28T14:35:09","date_gmt":"2026-03-28T14:35:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/224617\/"},"modified":"2026-03-28T14:35:09","modified_gmt":"2026-03-28T14:35:09","slug":"will-your-phone-ping-during-a-fort-worth-emergency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/224617\/","title":{"rendered":"Will your phone ping during a Fort Worth emergency?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>            <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"responsive-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/06.04.2025_tornado siren.jpg\"   width=\"1140\" height=\"641\" title=\"Fort Worth now has a new emergency alert system.\" alt=\"Fort Worth now has a new emergency alert system.\"\/><\/p>\n<p>        Fort Worth now has a new emergency alert system.<\/p>\n<p>                Joshua Carter<\/p>\n<p>            Belleville News-Democrat<\/p>\n<p>If severe weather hits Fort Worth, you probably expect your phone to alert you.<\/p>\n<p>But a recent change to the city\u2019s emergency alert system could affect whether you receive those warnings or not.<\/p>\n<p>Fort Worth is now using a new system, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fortworthtexas.gov\/departments\/emc\/emo\/ready-fw\">Ready FW<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A statewide alert test is scheduled for April 2, making this a good time to check that you\u2019re still signed up.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what to know.<\/p>\n<p>What is Fort Worth\u2019s new emergency alert system?<\/p>\n<p>ReadyFW replaced the city\u2019s previous <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fortworthtexas.gov\/departments\/emc\/emc-alert#:~:text=Fort%20Worth%2C%20TX%20November%2013,messages%20should%20the%20need%20arise.\">CodeRED system<\/a> in November 2025 after officials raised security concerns about the old platform.<\/p>\n<p>The new system sends real-time notifications about severe weather, including tornado warnings, along with public safety emergencies and evacuations.<\/p>\n<p>Sign-ups from the previous system didn\u2019t transfer over, so if you registered before, you\u2019ll need to sign up again.<\/p>\n<p>You can do that by texting \u201cSTART\u201d to 77295 or visiting the city\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fortworthtexas.gov\/departments\/emc\/emo\/ready-fw\">ReadyFW website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Why is Texas testing emergency alert systems statewide?<\/p>\n<p>The <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tdem.texas.gov\/press-release\/3-18-26-drill\">statewide test<\/a> is meant to evaluate how well emergency notification systems are working across communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRegular training and testing of public warning systems builds readiness before disaster strikes,\u201d Texas Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd said.<\/p>\n<p>During the test, you may receive a state <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dps.texas.gov\/section\/homeland-security\/cell-phone-notifications\">Wireless Emergency Alert<\/a> on your phone, which are sent automatically to most devices.<\/p>\n<p>A typical message may say: \u201cTEST of emergency alert system. No emergency. No action needed,\u201d city officials said.<\/p>\n<p>Statewide alerts are expected to be sent between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., with the test scheduled for 10 a.m. in Fort Worth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cResidents should also be aware that multiple alerts could be possible if traveling between cities during the test and outdoor warning signs WILL NOT be activated at this time,\u201d officials said.<\/p>\n<p>The test will be canceled if severe weather or a real emergency is happening.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Fort Worth now has a new emergency alert system.
