Heartbreaking news in the DFW community,\u201d former pro-basketball player and coach Jabari Johnson said in a social media post.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">RIP to former Arlington Sam Houston HS standout Malachi Hayes&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>Heartbreaking news in the DFW \ud83c\udfc0 community \ud83d\udc94 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/9tYCGz8x6O\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/9tYCGz8x6O<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The SportsInfluencer (Jabari Johnson) (@HeadsUpSI) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HeadsUpSI\/status\/2037321535510175907?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">March 27, 2026<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Hayes, at the time a high school junior, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/high-school\/texas\/2023\/02\/04\/malachi-hayes-michael-gibbs-power-surging-sam-houston-past-state-ranked-arlington-martin\">received credit in Sports Illustrated<\/a> in February 2023 when he scored 20 points in one game and helped the Sam Houston Texans to a decisive 70-59 win against the state-ranked Martin High School Warriors.<\/p>\n<p>The <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.star-telegram.com\/sports\/dfwvarsity\/boys-prep-basketball\/article274623286.html\">Star-Telegram listed Hayes<\/a> as member of the District 8-6A first team later that spring.<\/p>\n<p>Arlington police said they responded to a convenience store at the corner of Sherry Street and East Abram Street about 1:30 a.m. Thursday.
