{"id":226824,"date":"2026-03-30T11:08:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-30T11:08:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/226824\/"},"modified":"2026-03-30T11:08:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-30T11:08:08","slug":"how-an-auto-tech-giant-is-pouring-225m-into-mcallen-texas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/226824\/","title":{"rendered":"How an auto tech giant is pouring $225M into McAllen, Texas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A French automotive technology company has big plans for deep South Texas \u2014 one that represents at least $225 million in investment and is expected to create at least 500 jobs.<\/p>\n<p>Officials in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/news\/south-texas\/article\/mcallen-fattest-city-wallethub-ranking-2026-22081201.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">McAllen, the second-largest city<\/a> in the Rio Grande Valley, excitedly announced that global automotive technology company, Valeo, will soon build a new manufacturing facility in the South Texas border city.<\/p>\n<p>The company, which is headquartered in Paris, France, will build a next generation \u201csoftware-defined vehicle platform\u201d for American automotive giant, General Motors, at the\u00a0McAllen facility. Production is expected to begin in late 2027.\u00a0The facility will position the Valley on the cutting edge of automotive technology as\u00a0Valeo is expected to produce a centralized computing platform that will pair artificial intelligence with wireless updating capability in a smaller, more unified control unit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re proud to contribute technologies that enable the next generation of software-defined vehicles with this significant investment in the region and the future of automotive technology,\u201d said Jeffrey Shay, president of\u00a0Valeo North America.<\/p>\n<p>Valeo described the platform as a \u201cliquid-cooled system powered by next generation processors\u201d that will be able to handle data from \u201cmultiple senators and systems to control essential functions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Though\u00a0Valeo declined to release product specifications or images, <a href=\"https:\/\/news.gm.com\/home.detail.html\/Pages\/news\/us\/en\/2025\/oct\/1022-SDV-GM-centralized-vehicle-computer-platform-electric-gas-vehicles.html\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">GM revealed details about the new technology<\/a> in October. The new centralized computing platforms will be included in the company\u2019s electric and gas-powered vehicles, beginning with the 2028 model of Cadillac Escalade IQ. The platforms will make use of NVIDIA\u2019s Thor AI that will allow key systems within GM vehicles to be connected to a centralized control system. That includes propulsion, steering, breaking, infotainment and safety. Ultimately, the units will allow GM vehicles to \u201clearn and improve throughout their lifetime,\u201d the company said in an October 22, 2025 news release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGM vehicles will be always connected, awake, and available, with near-instant responsiveness to remote commands,\u201d GM officials said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cValeo\u2019s investment represents a major milestone for the Rio Grande Valley and reinforces our region\u2019s capacity to support advanced manufacturing at a global scale,\u201d Hidalgo County Judge Richard F.
