Salazar co-owns that bar, too.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Both buildings on the 1400 block of Main Street will be sold. \u201cThey feel it\u2019s easier to sell if they are vacant,\u201d Salazar told The Dallas Morning News. Three years later, the Dallas Observer called it a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasobserver.com\/food-drink\/dallas-french-food-gets-an-affordable-option-in-the-mitchell-10335130\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasobserver.com\/food-drink\/dallas-french-food-gets-an-affordable-option-in-the-mitchell-10335130\/\">\u201clovable underdog.\u201d<\/a> Both are still true. The food was better than it needed to be, and customers could lounge at the New Orleans-style bar while ordering chef Jodi Carroll\u2019s escargot, tartare and mussels.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">The Mitchell\u2019s menu includes steak frites ($29) and a cheeseburger with ricotta-berry jam ($16). Carroll\u2019s featured dish is a pork chop ($33) with parsnip-ricotta mash, fried Brussels sprouts and blackberry compote. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">\u201cWe tried to stay away from mainstream trends and just wanted to execute professionally,\u201d Salazar said. \u201cI think we succeeded.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Ye Olde Scarlet Pumpernickel Tavern has been open six years. It took the place of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/drinks\/2018\/08\/27\/labor-day-weekend-is-your-last-chance-to-visit-the-original-city-tavern-in-downtown-dallas\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/drinks\/2018\/08\/27\/labor-day-weekend-is-your-last-chance-to-visit-the-original-city-tavern-in-downtown-dallas\/\">Dallas\u2019 longtime City Tavern<\/a>. The Scarlet Pumpernickel survived through the toughest parts of the COVID-19 pandemic, offering an \u201ceveryday drinking bar,\u201d Salazar wrote on Facebook, for those ordering a Miller High Life or Schlitz. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">It is known as a hockey bar, and the website still congratulates the U.S men\u2019s hockey team for its recent Olympic gold medal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">\u201cWe really felt we represented a true American tavern,\u201d Salazar said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">The menu \u2014 much more casual than The Mitchell next door \u2014 includes smoked meatloaf, loaded beer cheese fries and a \u201cfancy\u201d bologna sandwich. It, like The Mitchell, is a popular haunt for restaurant and bar workers. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo?fbid=1526807856119707&amp;set=a.438784234922080\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo?fbid=1526807856119707&amp;set=a.438784234922080\">Regulars should check out the goodbye message posted to social media<\/a>; it lists staff members by name, shouting out their best (and sometimes worst) traits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">The Mitchell is at 1404 Main St., Dallas, and Ye Olde Scarlet Pumpernickel Tavern is at 1402 Main St., Dallas.
