I\u2019ve said it before, and I\u2019ll say it again: we can control the pet population in Lubbock<\/a>. We just have to decide to do it. It starts\u2014and honestly, it ends\u2014with spaying and neutering pets. I get it, life gets busy and money can be tight, but compare that to the time spent trying to give away a litter of puppies\u2026 or the cost of raising them yourself. This is one of those \u201cpay a little now or pay a lot later\u201d situations.<\/p>\n Lubbock Animal Services Receives A Large Grant<\/p>\n Here\u2019s the good news\u2014there\u2019s help.<\/p>\n Lubbock Animal Services already offers spay and neuter vouchers from time to time, and now they\u2019ve received a $150,000 grant that will fund an estimated 1,500 MORE vouchers. That\u2019s not small potatoes\u2014that\u2019s real, measurable impact.<\/p>\n Let\u2019s put that into perspective. If each of those animals avoided just one litter, you\u2019re talking about thousands of animals that never end up on the streets or in shelters. That\u2019s how you actually move the needle.<\/p>\n And this didn\u2019t just fall into their lap. Lubbock Animal Services was selected from over 100 applicants to be one of just 38 organizations statewide to receive funding from the Texas Department of State Health Services. That says a lot about the work they\u2019re already doing.<\/p>\n In fact, even before this grant, they were performing 2,000 to 3,000 surgeries in-house. Add another 1,500 on top of that, and now you\u2019re talking about real change\u2014not just talk, but action.<\/p>\n There is one catch\u2014you\u2019ll need a little patience. The grant funds don\u2019t officially kick in until October.
