These folks may not have their names in headlines yet, but peers in the industry can\u2019t wait to see their next moves. <\/p>\n<p>A nomination for Rising Star Chef in the 2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/austin.culturemaptastemakers.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">CultureMap Tastemaker Awards<\/a> means that judges \u2014 last year\u2019s winners and editorial staff \u2014 think these chefs have what it takes to really make a mark on the culinary scene. Her projects touch on land access, African Atlantic foodways, and more, ensuring that ancestral knowledge carries on and holistically supports people today. Plus, she\u2019s got a new restaurant concept on the way in Austin.<\/p>\n<p>Ale Kuri, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esteatx.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Este<br \/><\/a>Chef Ale Kuri brings a unique perspective to the Coastal Mexican restaurant Este as a third-generation Lebanese-Mexican who grew up in Mexico City. Inspired by the markets there, her family\u2019s catering business, and her Houston culinary education, she now creates dishes that convey her heritage in innovative new ways.<\/p>\n<p>Brandon O&#8217;Hara, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.holidayon7th.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Holiday<br \/><\/a>Born in Austin, Chef Brandon O\u2019Hara has seen it all in the restaurant scene. He grew up in restaurants and entered the industry as a 15-year-old dishwasher, later crediting his culinary growth to local restaurants like Launderette and Foreign &amp; Domestic and chefs like David Bull, Peter Klein, and Iradel Price. If you see him around, ask him about his Mustang, he says.<\/p>\n<p>Jos\u00e9 Luis Vega Santiago, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nixtataqueria.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Nixta Taqueria<br \/><\/a>When he\u2019s not leading the kitchen as chef de cuisine at Nixta Taqueria, Santiago serves up a piece of La Isla del Encanto to Austin with his Lech\u00f3n pop-up events \u2014 where attendees get a taste of Puerto Rican dishes like lech\u00f3n (roasted pig), yuca, arroz con gandules (rice with pigeon peas), and more.<\/p>\n<p>Keith Rzepecki, <a href=\"https:\/\/emmerhospitality.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Emmer &amp; Rye Group<br \/><\/a>Keith Rzpecki is an up-and-coming culinary leader in Austin with a portfolio full of Michelin-recognized eateries like Emmer &amp; Rye and Hestia, and previous experience at Uchiko and Tokyo-based INUA. His corporate chef role involves overseeing operations and creative developments across all of the important hospitality group\u2019s restaurants.<\/p>\n<p>Kevin Cannon, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.barleyswine.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Barley Swine<br \/><\/a>At Barley Swine, Chef Kevin Cannon upholds one of Austin\u2019s strongest commitments to farm-to-table cuisine \u2014 and his own commitment to it has been holding strong since before the restaurant moved to North Austin a decade ago. Now as the chef de cuisine, he keeps up both the food and relationships with producers and foodies around town for truly community-minded fine dining.<\/p>\n<p>Taylor Chambers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.suerteatx.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Suerte<br \/><\/a>Suerte\u2019s chef de cuisine, Taylor Chambers, has been cultivating the restaurant\u2019s upscale Mexican fare since 2021. Chambers\u2019 background also includes French cuisine thanks to a seven-year stint at Justine\u2019s Brasserie, and over the years he\u2019s participated in chef-driven festivals like the Austin Food and Wine Festival and Field Guide Festival.<\/p>\n<p>Zak Drummond, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wienersystem.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Zee&#8217;s Wiener System<br \/><\/a>Austin didn\u2019t know what it was missing until chef Zak Drummond brought his New England-style hot dogs to the culinary community. These dressed up dogs can be found at pop-ups all around town, as well as catered events and festivals.
