EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 A new annual report from the El Paso County Sheriff\u2019s Office says crime dropped 14% across areas within the agency\u2019s jurisdiction during the first year of Sheriff Oscar Ugarte\u2019s administration.<\/p>\n
The Sheriff\u2019s Office 2025 Annual Report breaks down issues that impact El Paso County residents, including crime, use of force, and investigations. <\/p>\n
The report notes the crime rate dropped 14% overall, with total crime offenses dropping 13% from 2,610 criminal offenses in 2024 to 2,304 offenses in 2025. <\/p>\n
According to the report, these offenses include drug crimes and theft, which are both down 17%, burglary down 9%, and assault dropping 11%. <\/p>\n
“The reduction in crime reflects the hard work and dedication of the men and women of the Sheriff\u2019s Office who serve this community every day,\u201d Ugarte said. \u201cWe have remained focused on being visible, proactive, and responsive to the needs of our residents while strengthening trust and collaboration with the public.\u201d<\/p>\n
However, several crimes saw an increase, with arson up 25%, sex offenses up 8%, and robbery up 12%<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the report also states that the agency increased operational activity in 2025, responding to more than 153,000 calls for service and conducting more than 45,000 traffic stops. <\/p>\n
It also cites increased enforcement efforts related to driving while intoxicated, illegal dumping, and animal cruelty.<\/p>\n
However, DWI arrests increased from 282 in 2024 to 436 in 2025. <\/p>\n
The report also notes the use of force, with a total of 128 incidents reviewed and a total of 192 complaints, with 187 internal investigations launched. <\/p>\n
