{"id":227974,"date":"2026-03-31T03:20:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-31T03:20:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/227974\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T03:20:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T03:20:08","slug":"kroger-officially-shutters-two-stores-around-houston-area","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/227974\/","title":{"rendered":"Kroger officially shutters two stores around Houston area"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Houston\u2019s supermarket scene has officially lost two major grocery stores. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kroger.com\/\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Kroger<\/a>\u2019s locations in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chron.com\/life\/travel\/article\/houston-heights-17811022.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Heights neighborhood<\/a> at 239 W. 20th St., and at 6060 FM 292 in Spring are no longer open.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The store closures were confirmed last month as &#8220;part of a larger company-wide decision to run more efficiently and ensure the long-term health of our business,&#8221; as Chron <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chron.com\/food\/article\/houston-spring-kroger-closures-21346004.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">previously reported.<\/a> At that time, a Kroger spokesperson said the Spring and Heights locations would close by April 10. \u00a0But on March 30, Chron was notified by the chain\u2019s communications team that both locations closed over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The Spring and Heights stores are just two of several locations shuttered around the Houston area since Kroger\u2019s decision to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chron.com\/food\/article\/kroger-closes-texas-mckinney-dallas-20388500.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">close 60 stores over an 18-month period.<\/a> At the time, the chain didn\u2019t reveal which locations would be impacted. But since June, Kroger\u2019s stores at Hedwig Village, Spring Branch and on Veterans Memorial Drive near Bammel North Houston Road have also closed for good.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Despite the handful of Kroger closures, the Cincinnati, Ohio-based grocery store chain still has multiple markets around the Houston area, and there are reportedly plans to open many more new locations here in the next three to five years, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/houston\/news\/2025\/11\/19\/kroger-houston-store-openings-remodel-plans.html\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Houston Business Journal.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s unclear if any other locations could be closing before then. Our team has reached out to Kroger for more information on the recent closures and if any other stores are at risk of being shuttered in the area.
