As the monks set out on their walk some community members bowed and touched their feet in respect while the chant \u201cBuddham Saranam Gachhami\u201d echoed through the temple.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Along with the monks, a dog found by Bhikkhu Pannakara, vice president of the Huong Dao Vipassana Bhavana Center and spiritual leader of the walk, during a similar walk in India, joined them on the journey on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Bhikkhu Pannakara and fellow monks pray before beginning their walk for peace.\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/43cb906d49f6c3b66268d9a10c9f4e50.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Bhikkhu Pannakara and fellow monks pray before beginning their walk for peace.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cI ask for your permission to lead this journey,\u201d Bhikkhu Pannakara said as he sat before a statue of Lord Buddha to pray before leading the walk. \u201cIn this journey, we have two senior monks \u2014one from Laos who is 70 years old \u2014 and monks from Taiwan and Vietnam. Wherever we go, monks from that location will join us for two to three days,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">During the 110 days journey the monks will travel across 10 states stopping at state capitols, historic landmarks, and local communities, said Dr. Neeraj Bajracharya, General Secretary of the Nepalese Buddhist Association.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Nineteen Buddhist monks began a 2,300-mile walk from Fort Worth to Washington, D.C., promoting national healing, unity and compassion.\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/be1ec2c1cbb68abc129b691a8e474ffc.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Nineteen Buddhist monks began a 2,300-mile walk from Fort Worth to Washington, D.C., promoting national healing, unity and compassion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">They are planning to walk at least 20 miles per day, Bajracharya said. \u201cSince today is the first day, and we started at 9:30 a.m., today\u2019s journey will be about 14 miles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Following ascetic practices, the monks will sleep under the trees and eat one meal per day, Bajracharya said. Two RVs will ride along in the journey where the food for the monks will be prepared, he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThe reason we walk like this is because, over the last several decades, with all the wars, people have lost respect for life. Buddhism teaches respect for life and peace. In today\u2019s society, people are angry, burned out, and killing each other. That\u2019s why they hosted this walk for peace,\u201d Haltom City Mayor An Truong said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cWhen I heard about this 2300-mile walk I was amazed,\u201d Texas Rep.
