Texas handed UCLA their lone loss of the season.<\/p>\n

Now, it was back in November, it was back in the Players Era Tournament, but UCLA has lost one game all season long, even going throughout the grind of the Big Ten schedule, and Texas is the only team that’s beaten UCLA.<\/p>\n

And I think Texas has the perfect secret ingredient to take down UCLA.<\/p>\n

Because what does UCLA have that nobody else has?<\/p>\n

Lauren Betts, 6’7″, imposing, dominant force in the paint, somebody who’s incredibly mobile, who can score from anywhere on the court, who’s gonna be at the rim, who’s gonna be knocking down shots.<\/p>\n

Well, I look at not just Brea Cunningham, who starts for Texas, but Kyla Oldacre, who was an absolute spark plug coming off the bench last night.<\/p>\n

Kyla Oldacre is 6’6″.<\/p>\n

Kyla Oldacre grabbed 11 rebounds in 20 minutes last night.<\/p>\n

If anyone can go size for size with UCLA, it’s Brea Cunningham, it’s Kyla Oldacre, and it’s these Texas bigs that can give UCLA, that can give Lauren Betts a run for their money on the path to a national championship.<\/p>\n

I wanna take everybody back in a time machine to just a few, weeks ago, February 12th, 2026.<\/p>\n

That was a significant day for Texas basketball.<\/p>\n

Because that’s the day that Texas basketball lost to Vandy, and afterwards, Vic Schaefer, this is his quote.<\/p>\n

“We have no heart, we’re not tough, and it’s probably the softest team I’ve had in years.”<\/p>\n

We talked about that quote at the time.<\/p>\n

Ooh.<\/p>\n

He also said, “I’ll wear all of it.”<\/p>\n

And what you saw last night was a reminder that sometimes teams need a wake-up call, and certainly everything wasn’t sunshine and roses after that for Texas.<\/p>\n

They’ve lost a couple of games since that moment, but their effort changed, their give a damn changed, their, their push changed.<\/p>\n

And last night, even when they were up so big that there was no reason to continue to put the foot on the gas, they continued to do that because it’s clearly part of the DNA of who Texas is right now.<\/p>\n

I th- taking on UCLA is gonna be a gauntlet.<\/p>\n

I think we can all admit that.<\/p>\n

This, this game is gonna be spectacular.<\/p>\n

But the one thing that became clear on February 12th is that Vic Schaefer felt like his team was getting out-efforted and outworked, and he wanted to make sure that his players understood he saw that.<\/p>\n

For him to come out and say, essentially, “This is not Texas,” was such a strong statement that obviously resonated with this locker room.<\/p>\n

I gotta credit Vic Schaefer, Caroline, a lot for just having the right tone- and the right pulse in the right moment.<\/p>\n
