{"id":229189,"date":"2026-03-31T21:41:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-31T21:41:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/229189\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T21:41:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T21:41:08","slug":"missing-san-antonio-treasure-discovered-on-texas-best-beach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/229189\/","title":{"rendered":"Missing San Antonio treasure discovered on Texas&#8217; &#8216;best beach&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The best-case scenario became reality after a San Antonio high school football player lost his class ring nearly 200 miles away from home.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, March 29, metal detector hobbyist Mark Gibson posted to the Port\u00a0Aransas Friends Facebook group that he&#8217;d found a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/news\/local\/article\/nisd-off-campus-lunch-policy-change-21345229.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Harlan High School<\/a> class ring along the beach that previous Wednesday. Gibson said he found it while searching\u00a0Port Aransas \u2014 &#8220;like I do almost every day all\u00a0winter long on many beaches all over this area&#8221; \u2014 for two other lost rings he&#8217;d seen on social media.<\/p>\n<p>The Wyoming, Minnesota, native who calls himself the Ring King said he&#8217;s been wintering in Port A \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/lifestyle\/travel\/article\/port-aransas-best-texas-beach-town-21950212.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">recently dubbed the &#8220;best beach in Texas&#8221;<\/a> \u2014 for 12 years. According to him. Lost rings are hard to reunite with their owners. He would know, as his post says, he found his 750th just a day after locating the Harlan class ring. However, class rings can be the exception. This one had the name of the school, a first name and the player&#8217;s jersey number, making it easy to call the school.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I left my name and number,&#8221; Gibson said. &#8220;Less than two hours later the kid&#8217;s mom who lost it called me with a positive ID and was over the moon with excitement.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Continuing, he recalls the story of how the senior&#8217;s ring\u00a0was lost.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They were in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/news\/south-texas\/article\/boots-alligator-port-aransas-21858321.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Port A<\/a> about a month ago and her son was playing football in the water with his\u00a0friends and lost his ring,&#8221; Gibson wrote. &#8220;She said the football moms prayed someone with a detector would find it some day and try to return it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The ring hasn&#8217;t quite found its way back to the owner.
