Texas baseball<\/a> and Texas State<\/a> had the bats working early Tuesday. And now that UT has taken its first lead, can they hang on?<\/p>\n The Longhorns, the second-ranked team in the country, just swept the rival Oklahoma Sooners. Texas State has won seven games in a row. The Bobcats (19-8, 6-3 Sun Belt) jumped out to an early lead and Texas starter Max Grubbs is already out of the game.<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n But the Longhorns (23-4, 7-2 SEC) have fought back, taking the lead in the sixth inning. The team combined for seven runs through the games first four innings. Neither starting pitcher finished the third inning.\u00a0<\/p>\n Follow along below for updates.<\/p>\n Top 9: Texas finishes the comeback<\/a><\/p>\n Right-hander\u00a0Sam\u00a0Cozart fanned\u00a0Cotton and got a flyout from Galloway. Tinney struck out on five pitches and Robbins struck out in three before Pack grounded out to second base. \u00a0<\/p>\n Top 8: Texas State can’t push across equalizer<\/a><\/p>\n Crossland remained in the game and induced a\u00a0groundout from Farris. Namken singled to right field and Austin Munguia came in to pinch-run. Two strikeouts \u2014 Mora and pinch-hitter Bennett Fryman\u00a0\u2014 by Crossland kept\u00a0Texas ahead, though.<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n Bottom 7: Texas leaves a\u00a0runner on third base<\/a><\/p>\n Keller Eberly, a right-hander, took the bump for Texas State. A groundout and strikeout started things off. Duplantier hit a double and stole third base, but Monsour struck out on a 3-2 pitch.<\/p>\n Top 7: Bobcats battle back, 9-8<\/a><\/p>\n The new pitcher for Texas is Ethan Walker. He forced a flyout from Boles then Cotton hit a double right field. Cotton came around to score on a\u00a0Galloway double. Salas made it three two-base hits in a row to score Galloway. Right-hander Brett\u00a0Crossland takes the mound with one out. He delivered a pass ball that put Salas on third base. Park grounded out to score Salas and make it a one-run game. Then Stewart grounded\u00a0out to first base to finish the frame.<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n Bottom 6: Texas takes late lead, 9-5<\/a><\/p>\n Braylen Timmins, a left-hander, took on the mound for Texas State.\u00a0Borba greeted him with a 2-2 home run. Becerra drew a walk then Larson struck out. Becerra stole second before Duplantier walked. Righty Cade Smith came in for\u00a0Timmins, and got Maddox Mansour, a pinch-hitter for Livingston,\u00a0to flyout. But Mendoza hit a two-run double to tie the game. Tinney then drove in Mendoza with a single to right field. The hits kept coming with a Robbins base knock up the middle. Pack’s single led to a Texas State error; both Tinney and Mendoza scored to give Texas the lead. A groundout from Borba ended the inning<\/p>\n Top 6: New hurler for Longhorns<\/a><\/p>\n Freshman Brody Walls entered for the Longhorns and retired Stewart on a 3-1\u00a0putout. He hit Farris with a pitch, but struck out Namken and Mora to put Texas back on offense.<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n Bottom 5: Heart of Texas’ batting order squanders walk<\/a><\/p>\n Mendoza drew a five-pitch walk to start off, but Texas couldn’t do anything with the\u00a0baserunner. The middle of the lineup went flyout, popout and groundout.<\/p>\n Top 5: Bobcats extend their advantage<\/a><\/p>\n Out goes Bing and in comes right-hander Max Burns. Galloway and Cotton went down to start the inning, but Salas hit an 0-1 pitch out of left field. Park grounded out, but the Bobcats lead, 5-3.<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n Bottom 4: Texas gets a baserunner, nothing more<\/a><\/p>\n Kerbow got Becerra to ground out and Larson to fly out before allowing a Duplantier single. But Livingston was set down on strikes.<\/p>\n Top 4: Farris goes deep for Texas State<\/a><\/p>\n Farris hit the first pitch of the frame out of the park to left field. Bing retired the next three batters, but the Bobcats lead, 4-3.<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n Bottom 3: Game still tied at 3<\/a><\/p>\n Dylan Kerbow took the mound for Texas State. Robbins, Pack and\u00a0Borba went strikeout,\u00a0popout and\u00a0groundout to end the third.<\/p>\n Top 3: Bobcats quiet again<\/a><\/p>\n A strikeout, flyout and groundout put the bats back in Texas’ hands.<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n Bottom 2: Longhorns tie the game at 3<\/a><\/p>\n Following two quick outs, the lineup turned over and Mendoza hit a double down the left-field line. He then steals third before scoring on a wild pitch from Markwardt.<\/p>\n Top 2: Pitching change for Texas<\/a><\/p>\n Left-hander Kade Bing enters for Grubbs. He induces two flyouts and a groundout for a clean inning.<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n Bottom 1: Texas strikes back<\/a><\/p>\n The Longhorns are down a run after a fruitful inning. A groundout and walk gave way to a two-run home run by Robbins. Pack grounded out before two runners reached, but a flyout ended the inning. It’s 3-2 Texas State.<\/p>\n Top 1: Texas State runs out to 3-0 lead<\/a><\/p>\n After a groundout to start the game, Galloway hit a 1-1 pitch over the left-field fence. Salas followed with a single but was caught stealing at second base. An error gave the Bobcats another runner and Stewart drove in Park.
