{"id":229772,"date":"2026-04-01T05:43:06","date_gmt":"2026-04-01T05:43:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/229772\/"},"modified":"2026-04-01T05:43:06","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T05:43:06","slug":"kyle-approves-1-29m-road-resurfacing-contract","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/229772\/","title":{"rendered":"Kyle approves $1.29M road resurfacing contract"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe Kyle City Council approved a $1.29 million contract with Viking Construction LLC for a 2026 Microsurfacing Project, aimed at resurfacing and maintaining multiple roads across the city, at a March 24 meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The gist<\/p>\n<p>The project features the rehabilitation of approximately 228,302-square-yards of roadway through crack sealing, and the removal and replacement of road striping, <a href=\"https:\/\/legistarweb-production.s3.amazonaws.com\/uploads\/attachment\/pdf\/3961855\/Exhibit_2_-_Presentation.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">according to agenda documents<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The process of microsurfacing can reinforce pavement and improve road safety by sealing small cracks, preventing water from seeping in and restoring a smooth surface, <a href=\"https:\/\/legistarweb-production.s3.amazonaws.com\/uploads\/attachment\/pdf\/3975192\/Exhibit_1_-_Staff_Memo_3212.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">according to agenda documents<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The city completed a road study in 2023, rating streets on a scale of 0-100, and received an average score of 82.5, a very positive score, city engineer Leon Barba said. The consultants who completed the study recommended a budget of $2.88 million in maintenance to retain the score.<\/p>\n<p>The City Council advised staff to maintain the score by adhering to the recommended budget for various maintenance, Barba said, including:<\/p>\n<p>$1 million: resurfacing$1.88 million: overlays$300,000: additional funding for crack sealing\u201cWe&#8217;re trying to keep the good roads in good shape,\u201d Barba said. \u201cThese roads are starting to crack open. We&#8217;re trying to cover those up before they get worse. Our focus with this particular process is to maintain as best we can.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The background<\/p>\n<p>The City Council approved an Interlocal Purchasing Agreement with the city of Grand Prairie for a joint purchasing program for goods and services, including microsurfacing, in March 2018.
