A quiet feeling of nervousness encapsulated Brazos Park on Tuesday evening before the spring Student Government election results were called at Party After the Polls. <\/p>\n

The biannual event, held by Student Government, announced the election results for positions such as Mr. and Ms. UTA, Student Body president and Student Body vice president. <\/p>\n

Due to a technical error in MavEngage, voting for senators has been extended and will be announced Thursday on social media, according to Student Government leaders. <\/p>\n

Sahaj Deshan, a College of Business senator candidate, said he was inspired by his peers, some of whom have been senators. Deshan\u2019s main platform was to increase scholarship money for students. <\/p>\n

Public health major Martin Camarillo was congratulated by friends as his name was called for Mr. UTA. <\/p>\n

Camarillo was previously a senator for the College of Nursing and Health Innovation and worked with the Public Health Department. He said his goal is to support students across all colleges.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe reason why I wanted to run for Mr. UTA, it wasn\u2019t for the title, but to keep on doing what I’m doing so far,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

As Alexandria Mitchell, Student Body chief justice, read the election results, cheers emerged from supporters of the candidates who won the Mr. and Ms. UTA and Student Body president and vice president elections. <\/p>\n

Political science sophomore Aniyah Coston, the newly appointed vice president, said she went through a mix of emotions when her name was called. <\/p>\n

\u201cA mix of shock, elation, for some reason a bit of anxiety,\u201d Coston said. <\/p>\n

Andres Morales, the previous Student Body vice president, said he felt relieved when his name was called as the new Student Body president. Morales said he intends to keep the students as his first priority and ensure Student Government listens. <\/p>\n

\u201cI want to really help students, one with communication, and two, try to tackle affordability,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
