A 15-year-old student who shot a Texas high school teacher before fatally shooting himself<\/a> had been “experiencing academic challenges,” law enforcement said.<\/p>\n

The teacher remained hospitalized Tuesday, the Comal County Sheriff\u2019s Office said. The student died at the scene. Their names have not been released.<\/p>\n

The sheriff’s office said in a statement that the student in Monday\u2019s shooting at Hill Country College Preparatory High School used a .357 revolver that he brought from his home. Detectives executed a search warrant at the home and seized several electronic devices, according to the department.<\/p>\n

The devices are undergoing forensic examination “in an effort to learn more about the student\u2019s actions and possible motive,” law enforcement said.<\/p>\n

Authorities have not said what led to the shooting. The sheriff\u2019s office said it is believed the student had academic challenges, including failing several classes, according to the news release.<\/p>\n

“Authorities are continuing to gather information to better understand the circumstances leading up to the incident,” the sheriff\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n

Comal County Sheriff Mark Reynolds said at a Monday news conference that investigators are looking into whether the teen was a current student of the teacher.<\/p>\n

John E. Chapman III, superintendent of the Comal Independent School District, said Monday was one of the hardest days the district has faced. He asked for prayers for the teacher and her family.<\/p>\n

“This community rallies around you, and we will be here to support you,” he said in a video statement<\/a>, asking people in the community to wear blue to show their support. “Sometimes, the most powerful thing we can do is to show up and let someone know that they are loved and that they are not alone.”<\/p>\n

Additional counseling services will be available for the students, Chapman said.<\/p>\n

“Thank you for your grace, your patience and your trust,” he said. “We will keep you informed, and we will get through this together as one community.”<\/p>\n

The high school in Bulverde, about 27 miles north of San Antonio, was closed on Tuesday. The shooting remains an active investigation.<\/p>\n
