Part costume ball, part fashion show, part art auction, the \u201cHouse of DIFFA,\u201d as the evening is known, is a visual circus that doubles as a fundraiser for HIV\/AIDS services across North Texas.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The year I attended, in 2024, I walked into the downtown Sheraton expecting tuxedos and gowns only to find a riot of feathers and sequins and masks. One cloaked man floated around on a\u00a0hoverboard. This year\u2019s theme is \u201cHotel Mystique,\u201d which sounds opulent and alluring, and as usual, a big draw will be the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/arts-entertainment\/lifestyle\/2024\/04\/20\/jackets-required-diffas-eye-popping-wearable-art-for-a-cause\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">one-of-a-kind luxury jackets<\/a> designed by artists for auction that evening.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But the climax is the runway show, the kind of electrifying spectacle that makes me wish Dallas\u2019 gay designers were in charge of more events. The 2024 show was a parade of avant-garde fashion and chic celebrity impersonators (David Bowie, Beyonc\u00e9) and performances by Dallas Black Dance Theatre and Louisiana\u2019s fabled Southern University Marching Band.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019d say DIFFA has the glamorous vibe of the Oscars, but the Oscars only wish they were this much fun.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>May 9, Sheraton Dallas Hotel, 400 N.
