{"id":230347,"date":"2026-04-01T15:08:12","date_gmt":"2026-04-01T15:08:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/230347\/"},"modified":"2026-04-01T15:08:12","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T15:08:12","slug":"appraisal-district-board-member-robert-bob-bruce-has-died","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/230347\/","title":{"rendered":"Appraisal District board member Robert &#8216;Bob&#8217; Bruce has died"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of Bexar County\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/sanantonioreport.org\/bexar-county-appraisal-board-runoff-results\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/sanantonioreport.org\/bexar-county-appraisal-board-runoff-results\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">first elected appraisal district board members<\/a>, Robert \u201cBob\u201d Bruce, passed away on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Bruce was closely involved with a number of state and national conservative organizations, including the Heritage Foundation and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tppf.planmylegacy.org\/supporters-like-you\/robert-and-captain-nancy-bruce\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Texas Public Policy Foundation<\/a>, which emphasize reducing the size of government.<\/p>\n<p>As a member of the Bexar Central Appraisal District\u2019s board of directors, he led an effort to give property owners who\u2019ve successfully\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sanantonioreport.org\/how-to-protest-your-property-tax-appraisal-texas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">contested their valuations<\/a>\u00a0a one-year reprieve from having their properties reappraised.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bcad.org\/public-notice-25-26-reappraisal-plan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">The new policy<\/a>\u00a0will apply\u00a0to property owners who successfully challenged their valuation in 2025. In most cases, that lowered market value will roll over to 2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was a leader in disrupting the status quo,\u201d said board member Erika Hizel, who worked with Bruce on the idea.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from his public policy work, Bruce was the founder of Boerne Stage Airfield, which he and his wife Nancy operated for decades, and sold several years ago. He also started an advertising company.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBob had a deep passion for public service and was a strong advocate for sound public policy, guided by his belief in individual liberty, free enterprise, and personal responsibility,\u201d Bexar County Commissioner Grant Moody said in a statement Tuesday. \u201cWe lost a titan this weekend, and I lost a dear friend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"780\" height=\"514\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/scott-stephen-ball_bcad-appraisers-district-inaugural-board-elected-officials-bexar-county-swearing-.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5374612\"  \/>The three elected members of the Bexar Appraisal District\u2019s board of directors (from left)  Naomi Elizabeth Miller,  Erika Hizel and Robert Bruce, shown being sworn in.  Credit: Scott Ball \/ San Antonio Report<\/p>\n<p>The new, elected appraisal district board positions were created by the Texas Legislature to give residents more insight and influence over the property appraisal process.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the Bexar Central Appraisal District\u2019s board of directors are expected to appoint a replacement to fill the remainder of Bruce\u2019s term.<\/p>\n<p>All three elected positions are supposed to appear on the ballot in November 2026. Filing for those races opens in July.<\/p>\n<p>BCAD spokeswoman Jennifer Rodriguez said Tuesday that the agency is \u201cstill coming to terms with his loss, but have begun speaking with legal counsel to ensure that we follow the process set forth by the Texas property tax code.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"One of Bexar County\u2019s first elected appraisal district board members, Robert \u201cBob\u201d Bruce, passed away on Sunday.
