\t\t\t\t\t\t\tPlano ISD<\/a> is planning 2% minimum raises for staff and a $1,000 increase to starting salaries for new teachers in the 2026-27 school year.<\/p>\n

PISD Chief of Employee Services Duana Kindle presented the district\u2019s suggested compensation plan for the upcoming school year at a March 24 board of trustees meeting.<\/p>\n

The new starting salary for PISD teachers will be $64,000, an increase from $63,000 in 2025-26<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Teacher starting salary increased by $2,000 ahead of last school year. The proposed 2% minimum salary increase is also less than the 3% raise put in place ahead of the 2025-26 school year.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t have the funds to really do anything more than that,\u201d Kindle said. \u201cWe don\u2019t want to fall so far behind that it becomes hard to catch up, but we also don\u2019t want to jump so far out that it\u2019s not sustainable.\u201d<\/p>\n

The district is anticipating a $43.75 million budget deficit<\/a> in fiscal year 2026-27, along with continued declines in student enrollment<\/a>\u2014both of which were considerations when drafting the district\u2019s pay structure, Kindle said.<\/p>\n

District staff projects that the new compensation plan will cost the district $2.43 million.<\/p>\n

PISD staff anticipates $7.43 million for the employee raises and $1.5 million for new staff. Deputy Superintendent Johnny Hill said the new staff would be needed to support programming coming online next school year, including the district\u2019s new Career and Technical Education Center.<\/p>\n

District staff also anticipates $7 million in savings due to staff reductions. Kindle said the staff reduction would be achieved \u201c100% through attrition,\u201d with PISD not replacing certain departing faculty due to decreasing enrollment.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s next?<\/p>\n
