CORPUS CHRISTI, Tx \u2014 If Corpus Christi enters a Level 1 water emergency, residents may beasked to reduce their water use. With water restrictions possibly ahead,checking your water meter early could save you money and helpconserve water across the city.<\/p>\n
Most people only see their water usage on their monthly bill, butofficials say you can check it right outside your home.<\/p>\n
“Most meters are located in front of the street like this one is,” StephenLynn said.<\/p>\n
Lynn said this small device can tell you when water is running, evenwhen you do not realize it. Lynn recommends checking the meter oncea month when your water bill comes in, because one day of leakingcould equal an entire month’s usage.<\/p>\n
“Normally every month you use 4000 gallons of water. Next thing youknow you’re using 10000 gallons of water,” Lynn said.<\/p>\n
You would never even know if the extra usage is coming fromsomething like a leaking toilet or a dripping pipe unless you knew howto check. The simplest way to check is to turn everything off insideyour home and step outside to the meter.<\/p>\n
“There\u2019s no water flowing through it. There\u2019s no movement on the dial,”Lynn said.<\/p>\n
If you notice any activity, that means water is still flowing somewhere.<\/p>\n
“So there\u2019s water flowing through the meter right now, so the smalltriangle is turning,” Lynn said.<\/p>\n
“If you have a leak, call the city to try to eliminate any water that\u2019s lost,”Lynn said.<\/p>\n
