Josie Garcia, who helped pass the school security law in 2023, criticized the situation. “I don’t want to play the blame game, but what we see here is gross negligence,” Garcia said.

Garcia said districts need to have officers on campus as soon as the doors open. “That’s 8:55 a.m., that’s the time the bell rings. What time do students, teachers and staff arrive at the school? What time is the school being opened? It’s a no brainer, and it’s common sense, but what we’re seeing is a concerted effort to skirt regulations,” she said.

Garcia said the incident underscores the need for more attention on mental health. “We understand that guns will get in the hands of bad actors, but we have no choice. We have no choice because children are losing their lives, and as we see here, at their own hands,” she said.

North Texas Democratic state Rep. Mihaela Plesa is also calling for stricter regulations and said it is something she wants to take up during the legislative session next year. “We need to create safer environments for our kiddos in these schools, because you cannot expect kiddos to feel safe and learn at the same time,” Plesa said.

It was not known whether the grandfather knew the gun was missing. The district had not answered why a resource officer is not staffed earlier in the morning, but is working on our request for information.

Hill Country College Preparatory High School, part of Comal ISD and known for its STEAM-based curriculum, is expected to reopen on the Tuesday following Easter.

SAN ANTONIO – New details continue to emerge following the Monday morning shooting at Hill Country College Preparatory…

[8
82,84,83
0":"post-230891","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-san-antonio","8":"tag-san-antonio","9":"tag-san-antonio-headlines","10":"tag-san-antonio-news
["GET
