Mayor John Whitmire announced the City’s timeline for renaming Cesar Chavez Blvd. to ensure opportunities for public input following recent revelations about the former leader of the the United Farmer Workers Union.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The mayor said he is starting the process following input from members of the community and elected officials, including U.S. Rep. Sylvia Garcia, who spoke during today’s City Council meeting. She urged the city to change the street’s name in honor of Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the United Farmer Workers Union.\u00a0<\/p>\n
