“Tom [Gaglardi], the owner and I, we started talking kind of back in August, a little bit after the draft. Things just\u00a0kind of got going, we both got busy but I wasn’t really too worried about it. We engaged a little bit more in January and February and got things done here about three weeks ago,” Nill told The Ticket. “Dallas is our home now. We’ve got a great fan base there. I’ve got a great organization. I’ve got great people that work under me and over me and I’ve got great ownership. It’s a great situation and I’m just happy to know that I can continue along the way.”<\/p>\n
Since landing in Dallas in 2013, Nill has maintained his presence as the NHL’s best general manager. Before his extension was announced, Nill was the subject of online speculation for open GM jobs like the one in Toronto.<\/p>\n
Nill said he wanted the Stars to announce his new deal so that speculation could be put to rest.<\/p>\n
“I really just want the focus on the team here. We’re getting ready for the big playoff run here and I just wanted to focus on that,” Nill said. “So we thought, ‘Let’s just get this out of the way.'”<\/p>\n
The general manager then reiterated that Dallas has become his home.
