Texas CASA works with volunteers in 74 local programs across the state, training them to become trusted adults and a source of stability in each child\u2019s life as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA). <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">As a CASA, a volunteer advocates for the child\u2019s safety and well-being. They get to know the child and their family or caretakers as well as teachers, coaches, and anyone who is an important part of the child\u2019s life. The CASA represents the child\u2019s best interests in communicating with attorneys, social workers and judges. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Local CASA Programs<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Programs around Houston include the following organizations:<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">How You Can Help<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Learn more about how to volunteer as a CASA at <a rel=\"sponsored nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.becomeacasa.org\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/www.becomeacasa.org\">www.becomeacasa.org<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Monetary donations can be made to <a rel=\"sponsored nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/texascasa.org\/give\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/texascasa.org\/give\/\">Texas CASA<\/a> or to any of their local programs. Some local programs have Amazon wish lists and fundraising events, allowing individuals and corporate groups to give at a variety of levels. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Child Advocates of Fort Bend shares some of the<a rel=\"sponsored nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cafb.org\/about\/about-abuse\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/www.cafb.org\/about\/about-abuse\/\"> signs of child abuse and neglect<\/a> on their website. The page also includes resources for children, parents and teachers. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">To learn more about how to report abuse, visit the <a rel=\"sponsored nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.txabusehotline.org\/Login\/Default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/www.txabusehotline.org\/Login\/Default.aspx\">Texas Department of Family and Protective Services<\/a> website or call 1-800-252-5400.
