SAN ANTONIO \u2014 A San Antonio council member is calling for a closer look at how Caf\u00e9College serves students, as career pathways continue to evolve.<\/p>\n
District 8 Councilwoman Ivalis Meza Gonzalez has submitted a Council Consideration Request asking the city\u2019s Governance Committee to evaluate the program and explore ways to expand its impact.<\/p>\n
Since launching in 2010, caf\u00e9college has served as a key resource for local students, offering college advising, financial aid assistance and scholarship support to help thousands pursue higher education.<\/p>\n
But Gonzalez says the current model may need to grow alongside changing workforce demands.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs career pathways continue to diversify, we must ensure every young person, regardless of the path they choose\u2014is equipped with the tools, skills and confidence to succeed,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The proposal calls for coordinating with partners such as the San Antonio Education Partnership, which operates caf\u00e9college, as well as SA Works, Alamo Colleges District, University of Texas at San Antonio and Texas A&M University\u2013San Antonio.<\/p>\n
The goal is to identify gaps and potentially add career readiness programming, including training for certifications and trade-based careers.<\/p>\n
City leaders say the effort would align with statewide workforce initiatives and help strengthen economic mobility for young people in San Antonio.<\/p>\n
